Royal Stoke Nurse Shares NHS Journey in 'Emotional' Return to India
A Royal Stoke nurse has spoken of her emotional return to India, where she shared her experiences of working in the UK's National Health Service (NHS) with the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Rukmini Rao, a senior nurse at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, spent a week at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where she delivered a series of lectures and workshops on patient care and nursing best practices.
Standing before a room full of aspiring nurses, Ms Rao described the moment as "a very proud moment for me". She reflected on her own journey, which began over a decade ago when she first started working in the NHS.
"I remember the excitement and nerves of starting my career as a nurse," she said. "Little did I know that I would go on to work in some of the most challenging and rewarding environments in the world."
During her time at AIIMS, Ms Rao shared her expertise on topics such as pain management, wound care, and leadership skills. She also spoke about the importance of compassion and empathy in nursing, values that she believes are at the heart of the NHS.
The trip was organised by the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which aims to promote global collaboration and knowledge-sharing between healthcare professionals.
Ms Rao's return to India has been hailed as a testament to the enduring bonds between the NHS and the healthcare systems of India and other countries. Her visit is seen as a significant moment in the ongoing exchange of ideas and expertise between nurses and healthcare leaders around the world.
