Polo, a sport often associated with luxury and high society, has experienced significant growth in India over the years. One key player who has witnessed this transformation firsthand is Lance Watson, a veteran polo player and top scorer for the Jaipur Polo Team. With numerous accolades under his belt, Watson shares his thoughts on the sport's evolution in the country.
In an exclusive interview, Watson highlighted his achievements, which include securing the Bhavnagar Polo Trophy in October 2024 with 6 goals in the semifinal and 3 in the final. According to Watson, polo in India has undergone a significant transformation, with more young players taking up the sport and the number of polo clubs increasing across the country. "The growth of polo in India has been remarkable," Watson said. "We're seeing more and more young players coming into the sport, and the infrastructure is improving, with new polo clubs and facilities being set up."
Watson credits the growth of polo in India to the efforts of the Indian Polo Association, which has been instrumental in promoting the sport and organizing international tournaments. With its rich history and cultural significance, polo is poised to continue its growth in India, and players like Lance Watson are at the forefront of this movement.
