In a move aimed at boosting the efficiency and dedication of its polling officials, the Election Commission of India has announced a significant hike in the remuneration of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other officials involved in the electoral process.
According to a release issued by the poll body on Saturday, the remuneration of BLOs has been doubled from Rs 6000 to Rs 12000. Additionally, the remuneration of BLO Supervisors, who are involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls, has been enhanced from Rs 12000 to Rs 18000.
In a first-time move, the Election Commission has also decided to introduce an honorarium for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). While the amount of the honorarium has not been specified, it is expected to be a significant recognition of the critical role played by these officials in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections.
The decision to hike the remuneration of BLOs and other officials is seen as a major step towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the electoral process. The Election Commission has been under pressure to improve the functioning of its polling officials, who play a critical role in ensuring that elections are conducted fairly and transparently.
The move is also expected to boost the morale of polling officials, who often work under challenging conditions to ensure that elections are conducted smoothly. The Election Commission has said that the hike in remuneration will be effective from the next electoral exercise, which is expected to take place in the near future.
